Alphanumeric is a leading provider of innovative medical communications for the Life Sciences and Healthcare industries. We are seeking a  skilled Medical Editor to join our growing team and contribute to impactful healthcare communications.

Conditions :

  • Freelancer with availability to jump into short-notice projects.
  • Preferably based in the timezone of the company EST, or CST. 
  • Type of employment: Direct 1099 contractor (work through another company or agency is not accepted)
  • Pay rate : Starting at 55$/hour, higher range available depending on experience and availability 
  • Work location : Remote, but preference for people based in EST

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences, English, journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in medical editing, healthcare communications, or scientific publishing.
  • Strong command of English grammar and syntax, with proven  copyediting and proofreading skills.
  • Proficiency with  Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat; experience with document management systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with  AMA Manual of Style and other medical editorial standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adjust to shifting priorities and project requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare agency environments.
  • Knowledge of regulatory submission processes (MLR, PRC) and electronic publishing tools.
  • Advanced degree or professional certification in medical writing or editing (e.g., BELS, AMWA).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review, edit, and proofread medical and scientific documents for grammar, clarity, accuracy, and consistency, ensuring adherence to  AMA style and client-specific guidelines .
  • Fact-check medical information, verify data integrity, and ensure all content is evidence-based and scientifically accurate.
  • Ensure compliance with  FDA, EU, ICH, and other relevant regulatory and industry standards for all deliverables.
  • Collaborate with medical writers, editorial staff, and cross-functional teams to coordinate workflow, manage timelines, and meet project deadlines.
  • Format documents - including references, tables, figures, and headings, according to internal and external requirements.
  • Maintain familiarity with client preferences , brand guidelines, and standard operating procedures ; apply these consistently across projects.
  • Participate in the preparation and publishing of submission-ready documents, including electronic formatting, hyperlinking, and pagination.
  • Contribute to the development and revision of editorial policies, style guides, and process improvement tools.
  • Track and report progress on assigned projects, proactively communicating risks to timelines or deliverables to project managers and supervisors.
  • Stay updated on current trends in healthcare, pharmaceutical practices, and regulatory requirements impacting medical writing and editing.
  • Support quality control processes by performing final checks on documents prior to publication or submission.
